Richard's Journey

When I was 15 years old my father, who had been suffering from ill health for many years, passed away in front of me from a heart attack. This traumatic experience affected me for many years. I was sad and angry that my father had been put on a number of drugs to treat his symptoms but at no point had his doctors been able to sit down with him and explain what else he could do and why. He didn’t understand that he needed to change his whole approach to his work, or how stress was contributing to his poor health and how his relationship with food was also making him sick. I feel that if I had the knowledge that I have now, I would have been able to help him change his outlook on life and he would still be with me today.

Now, as the proud father of 2 children, I have vowed to myself that I will be a father to my children for as long as I can. With my family history of CV disease and working in the highly stressed world of construction as a managing director of my own company, I knew I had to make changes. I realised that my interest and passion for food and good health was not being fulfilled within this stressful corporate environment and decided it was time for a major career change as this life was making me ill and unhappy. At the age of 38, I decided to take control of my health and wellbeing by studying to become a Nutritional Therapist at the College of Naturopathic Medicine.

This approach uses proven nutrition science to support individuals as a whole, looking at the whole body and its complex, inter-related processes. I now have the skills and knowledge to change the way I live my life, to make informed decisions about my and my family’s health and to make sure that they have the best. My decision to further explore how food can be our ‘medicine’ was made even more relevant after a family member started to suffer from ill-health. The dietary and supplements changes they have made to their daily life have led to a significant positive improvement in symptoms and quality of life, I have the knowledge to help and support my clients through Nutritional Therapy from straight forward dietary requirement to complex conditions that need constant support to move my clients to a point where their bodies are back in natural balance.

I strive to make my clients happy, healthy and well and I hope to be able to take them on a journey to better wellness and wellbeing.
